Director of College Programs at the Rape Treatment Center

La Shonda Coleman, LCSW is the Director of College Programs at the Rape Treatment Center (RTC) at Santa Monica – UCLA Medical Center. She manages the RTC’s college programs/services which include advocacy, training, outreach and prevention educational programming to local area campuses. As a licensed clinician, Mrs. Coleman also provides direct services to survivors of sexual assault/abuse at RTC.

La Shonda presents on Sexual Assualt Prevention and Response all over Los Angeles. Following is the description of one she presented  for the San Fernando Valley District of the California Society for Clinical Social Work in August of 2014.

Overview and Objectives of Campus Safety: Sexual Assualt Prevention and Response by La Shonda Coleman

This presentation will focus on prevention of sexual violence on college campuses as a human rights violation. She will explore the impact that sexual assault has on victims/survivors. All services are free of charge. The Rape Treatment Center (RTC) provides these services to all identities: males, LGBTQ, as well as children and adults. There will be a discussion of the ways in which the campus can work with the community to foster change. There will also be time for a dialogue and questions.

Objectives:

1) To identify sexual assault and the patterns and prevalence of victimization on college campuses.
2) To identify resources and reporting options following a sexual assault.
3) To identify at least three ways to prevent sexual violence (developing pro-social norms, healthy sexuality and bystander intervention.

Doctoral Student

La Shonda is also a doctoral candidate at the Sanville Institute and a member of the Sanville Community Alliance Program.
